Biography

Ricardo obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and his Master’s degree in Chemical Development & Production at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland in Fribourg. He then joined HES-SO as a Scientific Collaborator, working on the isolation and dereplication of new antibiotics from natural sources using LC-MS/MS, NMR and preparative chromatography. In parallel, he joined EPFL, where he developed OctoChemDB, a web platform for HRMS-based small-molecule dereplication, as well as cheminformatics tools for in silico fragmentation. In 2025, he joined the EPFL Analytical & Mass Spectrometry Platform, working on high-resolution MS, MS/MS method development and structural elucidation.
