Daniel obtained his degree in Chemistry from the University of Salamanca (Spain). In 2008, he joined Philippe Maître’s group at Université Paris-Sud (France), where he started working with different mass spectrometry approaches. He then joined Jean-Yves Salpin’s group in Évry (France) for his PhD, combining experimental mass spectrometry with theoretical approaches for the structural characterization of small molecules.
In 2012, under the supervision of Sophie Le Caër at CEA, he investigated ageing processes in lithium-ion batteries using mass spectrometry and complementary analytical techniques. In 2015, he joined the EPFL ISIC Mass Spectrometry Facility. His work focuses on the development and application of mass spectrometry methods, particularly for small-molecule characterization, ion mobility, structural analysis and high-resolution MS. He is also involved in the development of web-based tools and resources for mass spectrometry and in teaching and supporting researchers in the use of MS techniques.
Scientific interests: Small molecules, ion mobility, spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, method development, structural characterization.
Outside science: When he is not in the lab, Daniel is particularly passionate about basketball. He coaches young players and enjoys introducing children to the sport, combining training, teamwork and, above all, having fun on the court.
